10 for 2010: Stories That Opened Our Eyes
Long Valley Patch takes a look at memorable stories of the year.
You may have noticed a few "Top 10" lists on Long Valley Patch recently. No, we're not trying to compete with David Letterman. But as we wind down the year, we feel it's necessary to look back on news stories and happenings that opened our eyes.
In no particular order, here are 10 stories published on Long Valley Patch since its launch on Sept. 24. Links to the stories are embedded in this text.
1.) On Oct. 30, Long Valley resident Josie Irwin, 17, in Mansfield Township. The Washington Township community as a whole was shocked and by the news of a life gone too soon. and continue to reflect and celebrate .

2.) Just before Thanksgiving we learned that Long Valley Marine Tim Fallon was in Afghanistan. Fallon is now , and is currently located at Walter Reed Medical Center undergoing therapy and monitoring.
3.) A major topic of discussion in Long Valley this year revolved around the lack of water supply for residents on Schooley's Mountain and the controversy surrounding the Municipal Utilities Authority's digging of a well on a private farm. Long Valley Patch contributor MaryLynn Schiavi did some digging of her own and spoke with as well as in the matter to see what kind of clarification could be made.

4.) During the fall, the Washington Township Committee proposed an ordinance that would allow more land availability to deer hunters in the township. During a public forum, came out in force to express their opinion on the matter. The committee has yet to the ordinance.
5.) The West Morris Central Wolfpack football team put together a very successful season in 2010, strong enough to garner a first-round playoff bye week. When the team returned to action in the sectional semifinals, it faced off against the rival Morristown Colonials. In a hard-fought game that came down to the final minutes, the Wolfpack from its chance at back-to-back championships.
6.) In more sports news, the West Morris Central Volleyball team attained the number one seed in the Morris County Tournament for the second consecutive year. And without much of a fight, the team it was given that ranking.
7.) The Bridge family, residents of Long Valley, shared a great story with us about how a Christmas gift turned into the .
8.) There were two open seats on the township committee heading into the Nov. 2 election this year, and running for those spots. It was a spirited for all three men, resulting in to fill out the committee.
9.) A trio of Long Valley natives began paving their way to musical stardom as part of the band . Long Valley Patch contributor Gerard Longo sat down with the group to discuss its hometown as well as the common goal–making music.
10.) How could we not take a look at the story that started it all: All the readers and contributors have made this a successful source of news content for the community they love. We look forward to 2011 at Long Valley Patch and hope you do too.
