41-Month Prison Sentence for Owner of Long Valley Company in Fraud Case
Courtney Shorter ordered to pay back $3M in restitution.

The Roselle man who owned a Long Valley-based freight shipping and trucking company has been sentenced to 41 months in prison after admitting to fraudulently taking more than $3 million from other companies in the form of invoices for work never done.
Courtney P. Shorter, 48, with addresses in Roselle and Memphis, Tennessee, pleaded guilty in April this year to mail fraud after sending 1,725 invoices for work that was never done to a Fort Myers, Florida pharmaceutical company over a two-year period.
Shorter, owner of Sam Shorter & Son Delivery Service, received $3,039,840 as a result of the scheme, and upon pleading guilty faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.

In addition to the 41 months, Shorter will be under supervised release for an additional two years after he leaves prison, and has been ordered to pay back $3,039,840 in restitution.
