Believe In Your Beauty
I am creating "Believe In Your Beauty" bags for young teeneage girls with cancer for my Girl Scout Gold Award.
I have been involved in Girl Scouts since Kindergarten. Years and years of workshops, trips, badges, awards and it’s all led up to this: my Gold Award. This is the highest honor that can be achieved in Girl Scouts and requires at least 60 hours of work towards a project that will in some way benefit the community. Before the 60 hours even starts, there is the planning stage which includes coming up with an idea, filling out proposal paperwork, meeting with the Girl Scout Council to discuss the project and hopefully get their approval to begin.
After much indecisiveness and discussion, I have decided to work towards my award. I did not know if I was going to commit to this project because of the time required, but I finally decided to just do it. Why not? A lot of hard work in the next few months will pay off in multiple ways. It will look good on my resume, I will have went through all 12 years of scouts, but most importantly, I will have changed lives.
My project is creating “Believe in Your Beauty” bags for young teenage girls with cancer. I believe that these girls, sadly, may not feel beautiful or confident because of their diagnosis. My goal with this project is to give them the confidence they need to keep their heads up and fight through the cancer, because they deserve it. I am contacting businesses, speaking at my church, holding workshops with younger girl scouts, putting together the bags, and finally delivering them to Hackensack Hospital. I will be filling the bags with beauty items as well as cards and inspirational sayings to help these girls have a positive view on life.

With a bit of luck and some hard work, my project will be successful. I have support from my closest friends and family and will hopefully be getting help from many different members of the community. If anybody would like to help me make these girls feel beautiful, please contact me! I am collecting unused make-up and beauty items such as blushes, lotions and fragrances for the bags. You can email me for details of what I need and how you can easily help at michellenrichar@gmail.com. Your help would be truly appreciated and you would be changing the lives of young girls who need it.
