Help the Lions collect 4000 pairs of glasses this year!
The Chester Lions Club is asking people to donate old, unwanted eyeglasses to the Lions Recycle for Sight program.
Each year the Chester Lions Club collects more than 3,500 pairs of unwanted eyeglasses and sunglasses for those in need in developing countries. We hope that you will help us to reach 4,000 pairs this year!
As part of Eyeglass Recycling Month, the Chester Lions Club would like to make you aware of our eyeglass recycling program. In keeping with the main mission of Lions International, the Chester Lions Club collects used, unwanted eyeglasses through collection boxes located at various local businesses and community buildings throughout the surrounding area, in order to bring sight to those around the world who need it. We collect used prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses that are then distributed to those in developing countries who are in need where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
"We need everyone to donate their old glasses," said Bernd Anger, Chester Lions Club president. "In most developing countries, an eye exam can cost as much as one month's wages, and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people." And for many, poor eyesight that is left uncorrected can lead to unemployment for adults and a child's inability to attend school. The used eyeglasses collected in the community can help children and adults in developing countries enjoy a better quality of life. Many will experience corrected vision for the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment and take care of their families.
All types of glasses for children and adults are needed, including very strong and very weak prescriptions. Reading glasses and non-prescription sunglasses are also useful. Hearing aids are also accepted in our recycling boxes.
