John F. Kennedy Remebered

A brief recollection of JFK

Today is the 48th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I was in the auditorium/gymnasium at Assumption school in Morristown when Sr. Virginia interrupted our study hall with the news. Like a lot of 13-year olds I didn’t know what to make of it at first. Coming from a family of Democrats, I enjoyed the campaign flare and hoopla from the 1960 campaign and I genuinely liked this man. His strange way of speaking, that our nation need new “vig-ah,” and later, his inspirational mandate to “...ask not what your country can do for you, but rather, ask what you can do for your country…” resonated with everyone, young and old.  I’m old now, but I still look for that “vig-ah” and enthusiasm for life that JFK always presented to us.
