Reach Out Through REACH
Junior REACH is a program dedicated to helping 8th graders with their transition into high school.
Junior Reach is beginning again at the High School. Last year, I was a part of Junior Reach. It is a group of high school juniors who go to the middle school a couple of times throughout the year to talk to the students about life.
We each got a group of around 3-6 kids each who we talked to every time we went. The object of the group is to allow middle school students to get comfortable with us and be able to ask us questions so that we can tell them what to expect in high school.
We talk about everything from scheduling to lunch time to activities. Even though a lot of the kids are very shy, this program allows them to ask questions and get a little bit more familiar with the way the high school works.

REACH students also help give tours to parents on Curriculum night and help the freshman on the first day of school during orientation. On the first day of my freshman year, I remember saying hello to my REACH counselor and it made me feel good to know an upperclassman that I knew could and would help me if I needed somebody to talk to. That is what the program is all about. Junior REACH is a great way for high school students to reach out to middle school students to help them with the transition to high school.
