Washington Township Green Team Shredding Day A Success

Personal and business papers were shredded for free at the Town Green Team Semi Annual Spring Shredding Event. Residents took advantage of the convenient service to save time and electricity costs.

The Washington Township Green Team Shredding Day on Saturday April 21  was another successful event for the two year old township ad-hoc organization. Cars, SUVs and Pick Up trucks started lining up before the 8:30 a.m. start and continued in a steady stream during the four hour event. A change in the commercial shredding company for the event meant that all documents were shredded on site utilizing a truck mounted, enclosed shredding unit, which eliminated the previous two "bankers size box" limit for on site shredding. The operation was staffed by Recycling Coordinator Nancy Salvatore, Municipal Office Manager Andrew Coppola, a DPW employee and myself with an employee of the commercial company operating the bin lift and shredding machine . Residents were pleased with the ease and convenience of the free service, with an average wait time of less than five minutes after the initial "rush" of six vehicles was over. All vehicles were unloaded by the four of us but residents helped with the process, when their vehicles full of boxes, to help keep things moving quickly. Three small businesses, residents disposing of family and grandparents paperwork and years of paper files stored in garages were among those who took part in the event. There will be another shredding event in the Fall, date to be announced. Don't forget the Electronics Recycling event on June 9 at DPW. Check the Green Team website, Town website, Face Book and Patch for events and programs throughout the year.
