Washington Township Municipal Alliance & County Campaign Against Underage Alcohol Purchases

Program to eliminate purchases of alcohol for minors in Washington Township.

Washington Township's Municipal Alliance and the Morris County Community Coalition have joined in a program to discourage the purchase of alcohol for underage residents. Every year incidents of underage alcohol consumption increase around the holidays. Some of this is the result of minors asking adults to purchase alcohol for them, primarily beer and wine cooler take out packs, at package good stores and restaurants. The minors either approach adults near the stores and ask them to make a purchase or solicit friends of legal age to go to the stores for them. Either method is against the law and can result in charges against both adults and minors.

This year a cooperative effort by the Municipal Alliance and the Community Coalition, called Program Sticker Shock, enlisted the assistance of local businesses to post notices and put stickers on beverage packages warning against purchasing alcohol for minors. Several Washington Township businesses have agreed to participate in this campaign. The Municipal Alliance hopes that all adults will cooperate with this effort to prevent illegal drinking by minors that leads to injuries and deaths every holiday season. Residents can help by refusing to make purchases of alcohol for minors. Please help eliminate alcohol related accidents, injuries and deaths this holiday season.
