Flowers, Friends Honor 275 Years for Twp.

Garden Club and library join forces for special April flower show.

The Garden Club of Long Valley presented a three-day Historic Standard Flower Show titled "History in Bloom" in celebration of Long Valley's 275th anniversary from April 19 to 21 at the Washington Township Library.

The Flower Show tribute to Long Valley's past included historic and heirloom flowering bulbs, potted plants, period designs from early Colonial, Williamsburg, Victorian and Modern periods with 24 incredible floral designs. 

Daffodils, Hyacinths, Tulips, Begonias, African Violets and herbaceous perennials were featured in the horticulture division. Special exhibits included nearly 50 exhibits from the Sprouts of Long Valley Jr. Garden Club with potted plants, floral designs and artistic crafts. Terrariums were on display from Garden Therapy sponsored group as were botanical creations consisting of antique quilt block patterns, brooches, Tussie Mussies, ornaments and a large photography display.

All exhibits were inspired by the history of Long Valley with education by Betsy Guzenski, Vice President of the Washington Twp. Historical Society.

The Garden Club of Long Valley consists of 48 talented members.  The club currently maintains the gardens around the library and at various locations around the town.

During the ceremony, special guest and library director Jacqueline Zuzzi was awarded a special recognition plaque for her support of the Garden Club of Long Valley over the past five years.  On her plaque was a quote from Cicero: "All one needs is a library and a garden." 

Special friendship pins were also given to all the library staff in appreciation of their support.
