Volunteers Upgrade Mill Pond Park In Long Valley

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Visitors to Mill Pond Park have two new ways to learn about the natural world around them following a weekend improvement project at the Helen Andrews Memorial & Outdoor Education Area.

The Washington Township Land Trust's Stewardship Committee installed two new interpretive nature signs at the education area on Saturday, while volunteers also tackled invasive plants and performed trail maintenance and cutback work.

Altogether, volunteers logged 18 hours during the Saturday work session, according to the committee.

The new signs, titled "Discover the Living Forest" and "The Forest Food Web," were developed in-house and designed by Pannier Graphics.

The project was made possible through grant funding from First Jersey Energy and the Long Valley Junior Women's Club, according to the committee.

The educational displays are intended to give park visitors another opportunity to learn about the forest ecosystem while exploring the Helen Andrews Memorial & Outdoor Education Area.

With the signs now in place, the Stewardship Committee said it plans to invite members of the Long Valley Junior Women's Club to join a wellness walk through Mill Pond Park as a thank-you for the group's support.

Residents visiting Mill Pond Park are also encouraged to stop by the outdoor education area and check out the new signs.
