Bergen Man Trafficked And Sexually Exploited Kids: Prosecutor

Kevin J. Newell, 55, was wanted by Pennsylvania and federal authorities. He was arrested Tuesday after a monthslong investigation.

A Bergen County man, a "fugitive from justice," was arrested Tuesday after a monthslong multi-state human trafficking and child sexual exploitation investigation, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.

Kevin J. Newell, 55, a married salesman, was arrested after special agents from the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at his Maywood home, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo.

Executing the search warrant was part of the investigation by HSI and the North Strabane Police Department in Pennsylvania.

Newell allegedly had files or photographs on his computer depicting child sex acts, Calo said.

Newell, whom officials said was a "fugitive from justice," was charged by Pennsylvania authorities with trafficking in individuals, trafficking in minors, unlawful contact with a minor - sexual offenses, and criminal use of a communication facility.
