Fiery Fatal Crash On I-287 In Mahwah

A fiery fatal crash happened when a Jeep struck a truck on a major New Jersey highway on Sunday, police said.

A man was killed in a fiery fatal crash Sunday when a Jeep struck a truck on a major New Jersey highway, police said.

The crash happened at 2:26 a.m. when the Jeep struck a tractor-trailer on I-287 northbound in Mahwah, police said. The driver was entrapped as his vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The truck driver did not have any injuries.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at milepost 63.5. The crash was described by Daily Voice as so fiery that it melted the license plates of the Cherokee after it struck a truck hauling cases of water.

Mahwah Fire Companies 1, 2 and 4 responded with Franklin Lakes providing mutual aid, according to Daily Voice. I-287 was closed for four hours after the crash.
