Mahwah PD: Faulkner Court Fire Not Deemed Suspicious
Six units were also heavily damaged by fire, while an additional four to six units were damaged from smoke and water.
Mahwah Police say the fire at the Faulkner Court condominiums Tuesday began in an outside balcony and is not deemed to be suspicious.
Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said the department responded to the fire at Building 18 just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and began alerting and evacuating residents and pets from the structure, which was fully engulfed in flames upon police arrival.
One resident was taken to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood after jumping from a second floor window to safety and injuring his shoulder, according to Chief Batelli. Another individual, who was visiting one of the condo’s, suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in New York.

Mahwah Fire Companies 1-5 responded and extinguished the fire in 30 minutes, though the Building Inspector has deemed the building condemned due to its “extensive structural damage.”
Twenty-five residents were evacuated, and the Office of Emergency Management established an Emergency Center at the Senior Center, Chief Batelli said.
