Just on the border of Oakland and Mahwah, Camp Glen Gray was created in 1917 as a boy scouts camp, and is named after one of its founders, Frank F. Gray. In the early years of the camp, scouts had to take a (not always reliable) bus up the mountain to reach it, or hike about a mile along the Midvale Trail. Today, the long winding road leading up to the camp is paved, and accessible by car.
After a decline in scouting, the camp was revamped in the late 1980's as a place for cub scouts as well. In 2002, it was purchased by the Trust for Public Land, and integrated into the Bergen County Park's System. Camping opportunities are now open to everyone.
