Police Find Cut Gas Pipe After Responding To Burglary Call In Maplewood, Arrest Man
Police said they found a gas pipe cut in the basement of a Maplewood building after they responded to a burglary call.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Police said they caught a man with a crowbar on Tuesday night after responding to a call of a burglary in progress. After taking the man into custody, they found forced entry and a cut gas pipe in the building, they said.

Police said that they responded to the area of Boyden Avenue during the overnight hours Tuesday. They saw a man leaving the property with a crowbar in hand, they said.

The "officer on scene investigated and noticed forced entry to a rear door of the residence and detected a smell of gas," police said.
Several pipes in the basement were cut and had been in the process of being removed by the man, police said. It was determined that one cut pipe was a gas line, police said.

The Fire Department and PSE&G were notified and responded.
John Nadwodny, 64, was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief, police said.
He was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility, police said.
