1. Maplewood Library Names Card Design Winners (patch.com) — Maplewood residents will soon see three locally created designs on new library cards, featuring a fox, a bookcase, and a community scene. Chosen from more than 75 entries, the winning artwork by Lindsey Balbierz, Frank Umlauf, and Tommy Sysel celebrates Maplewood's spirit and will be available at the Main Library and Hilton Branch this fall.
   

2. South Orange to Receive Public Health Grant For Shared Services with Maplewood (villagegreennj.com) — Maplewood residents will benefit from a new state public health grant awarded to neighboring South Orange that helps fund their shared health services agreement. By covering core public health work through 2027, the grant frees local budget dollars to support crisis intervention social workers who respond alongside police to mental health, homelessness, and family crises in both towns.
   

3. The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race Invites Community to Annual Gala on October 15 (villagegreennj.com) — Maplewood neighbors are invited to join South Orange friends at the Celebrating Integration Gala on October 15, supporting racial equity and inclusion work in both towns. The event honors Maplewood Library Director Sarah Lester and school district leader Marcia Hicks, while raising funds for the Community Coalition on Race's dialogues, programs, and integration initiatives that shape daily life here.
   

4. THE GRAVEYARD GIRLS to Make East Coast Premiere at interACT Theatre Productions (broadwayworld.com) — Maplewood theatergoers can catch the East Coast premiere of horror-comedy The Graveyard Girls at the Burgdorff Center from October 9–24. The interACT Theatre Productions show follows friends telling scary stories in a graveyard, features a large local cast and creative team, and invites audiences to kick off Halloween season close to home.
   

5. Orange Daily Buzz: Sep. 24, 2026 (jerseybee.org) — Maplewood families can join the Isaiah House Family Color Run on October 3 at South Mountain Reservation, raising funds for the local nonprofit. The same roundup highlights nearby Essex County events, from food truck festivals and nature classes to tax-relief help and a Medicaid webinar, plus news of an ethics investigation involving New Jersey's lieutenant governor.
