17 Dogs Covered in Fleas, Fecal Matter and Urine Found in Monmouth County

Keyport, NJ - As many as 17 dogs were rescued from a Keyport home over the weekend, where the animals were living in filth and covered in urine, fleas and fecal matter, the Monmouth County SPCA announced Tuesday morning.

"These dogs were living in garbage, urine-soaked debris and covered in fleas and fecal matter when pulled from the now condemned home," the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Animals posted on Facebook Tuesday. "The owner of the home is facing several charges of animal cruelty and will be tried in court in the near future."

The Keyport dog rescue comes only a few weeks after an incredible 276 dogs — including a litter of newborn puppies, and as many as 20 pregnant dogs — were removed from a Howell home earlier this month, on June 4. The Howell hoarding situation is being called the largest case of animal hoarding in Monmouth County history and possibly the state.

The Keyport dogs are currently at the SPCA's shelter in Eatontown.

Out of the 17 dogs, 11 are puppies, so the SPCA is in need of towels — any size will help. Within the next few weeks, the dogs will be assessed medically and behaviorally and will be placed up for adoption. Here is a wishlist of items the SPCA needs for the dogs. They thank anyone in advance for donating.
