5 Rescued In Keansburg Boat Capsizing Friday Night

Witnesses said they saw the boat capsizing shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 18 near the Keansburg pier, a popular fishing pier.

KEANSBURG, NJ — Five people had to be rescued when a boat capsized in Keansburg Friday night, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to Patch. The Coast Guard did not respond in this incident, but they confirmed the incident did occur.

Witnesses said they saw the boat capsizing shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 18 near the Keansburg pier, a popular fishing pier.

Keansburg fire department, Middletown fire department, NYPD aviation and an FDNY marine unit responded to pull people from the water. The Middletown volunteer fire dept. pulled two people out, and the FDNY recovered three others.

None of them were wearing life jackets, a Coast Guard spokesman told Patch.

All five were taken to Monmouth Cove Marina; from there, an ambulance took them to a local hospital to be evaluated.
