PREVIEW: Navesink Garden Member Gotti Kelley's interpretation:
Dawn DiCicco's "Helplessness Blue" (shown above) at first intimidates with its strength and powerful rendering. The perceived seascape is violent and gripping and yet moments of calm appear, softening the paintings impact and lessen its assault.

The black wood in my design invokes the power of the art, white curved strips and orchids echo the waves and spindrift of the roiling waters.
The Navesink Garden Club has partnered with the Monmouth Museum for a number of years. In 2015 a club member, who is also a Friend of the Monmouth Museum, donated money to the Museum to establish a place where visitors could utilize the outside of the Museum to enjoy trees, plants, flowers and nature. The Friends group is a volunteer committee that helps to raise funds for the Museum and helps to host it’s Main Gallery opening receptions. The club planted native plants and established a butterfly garden. This garden and picnic area is named the Betty Jean and Karl Meyer Art & Nature Area (Meyer Art & Nature Area). Since its inception the members of the Navesink Garden Club (NGC) have helped plant and maintain this area for the public’s enjoyment.
It was a rainy day this year that the Garden Club was weeding and cleaning the Nature Area. Members who helped in the garden were: Betty Lou Berger, Pat Dygulski, Hope Hanlon, Yoko Ikura, Bernadette Kelly, Bernice Maguire, Joanne Mallon, Pam Marhan, Jo McKeon-Hutton, April Qin, Janine Voell, Diane Woodroffe.
What to do in the rain? Gardeners will garden and kids will play. This gem of a place in New Jersey on the campus of the Brookdale Community College, has not only art exhibits, but also the Meyer Art & Nature Area which combines art, flowers, plants and activities for children of all ages….and adults.
The Monmouth Museum, founded in 1963 as a Museum of Ideas, presents changing art, history and science exhibitions to educate and entertain while providing a destination for creative expression and life-long learning to the diverse community it serves.
