'Land of Mine' at Atlantic Highlands Film Fest Screening This Weekend
The true story of young German POWs sent to the beaches of Denmark to dig up nearly 2 million landmines, with their bare hands.

Atlantic Highlands, NJ - Atlantic Highlands’ FilmOneFest organizers have announced the next screening event in their ongoing Special Movie Premiere Series, the multiple award-winning film "Land of Mine," this Saturday, September 24 at The Arts Corner in Atlantic Highlands.
This will be the first area showing for "Land of Mine," and the event will also include a talk by Monmouth University Associate History Professor Christopher DeRosa. It's been submitted for an Oscar in the best foreign-language film category.
"Land of Mine" is the true story of young German prisoners of war who are sent to the beaches of Denmark after WWII ends, to clear the nearly two million landmines, planted by the Germans, that remain unexploded on its shores. All are invited to attend the premiere. The program will begin at 8:30 p.m. at The Arts Corner, where guests will enjoy refreshments and an engaging 20-minute talk and Q&A by noted historian Professor Christopher DeRosa. DeRosa will provide perspective on this little-known piece of history, and discuss the emotional and historical backdrop that shaped this story and its players. Guests then stroll across the street to Atlantic Highlands’ retro-classic movie theater for the film screening. Tickets are $20 online at www.filmonefest.org, as well as at The Arts Corner, 135 First Avenue, Atlantic Highlands. There is a special $10 student rate; please bring student ID. It is rated R, for some violence, grisly images and language.
