A Monmouth County beach was closed on Tuesday because of high bacterial levels in the ocean water.
A testing of the water in Beach D at Sandy Hook yielded results that showed high levels of bacteria, directing beachgoers to guarded beaches in the national park such as beaches C, E, Gunnison and North, according to the park.

Sandy Hook Beach D is CLOSED. This closure will remain in effect until further notice. Please visit one oif our other lifeguard-protected beaches (C, E, Gunnison and North). Lifeguards are on duty 10 am to 6 pm.
The park did not know what caused the high levels, but the park’s natural resource employees recommended the closure out of concern for people’s safety, according to nj.com.
