Boat Sinks, People Rescued In Sandy Hook Bay Off Leonardo

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Three people had to be rescued Sunday afternoon after their boat capsized in Sandy Hook Bay, off the Leonardo section of Middletown Township. These are photos of the rescue provided by the Middletown fire department.
The Middletown volunteer fire department received the call at 12:37 p.m. Sunday, June 10 that a boat was taking on water off Leonardo. The Brevent Park and Leonardo Fire Company boat was dispatched, and when rescuers got there, they found the boat completely submerged and three people in the 60-degree water of Sandy Hook Bay.
The people were brought onto the boat and assessed by Middletown EMS. Nobody was seriously injured or required hospitalization.

Middletown fire department spokesman Dennis Fowler said he did not know if they were wearing life jackets or not.
The U.S. Coast Guard and State Police responded to assist the Middletown fire department. Fire Department Second Assistant Chief John Friedman was in command.
