Companies ARE Hiring: NJ Launches Online Job Portal

Companies directly responding to the coronavirus have an immediate need to fill thousands of jobs, ranging from nursing to food supply.

Are you out of work and need a job? While thousands have been laid off — particularly in the hard-hit restaurant industry — there are a number of companies who actually have an increased need for workers due to the coronavirus pandemic, and they are hiring.

These include employers such as Wawa (deemed essential retail), Amazon and UPS to deliver packages and Johanna Foods shipping and logistics.

All of those companies have been consolidated into one new online portal launched by Gov. Phil Murphy's office. The jobs portal is here: https://jobs.covid19.nj.gov.

Who's hiring? Amazon is hiring 3,400 across all its New Jersey warehouses, and wages start at $17 an hour. Atlantic Health System, for example, has an immediate need for 50 new nurses across all their facilities. Licensed new graduate RNs are encouraged to apply. Bancroft, which provides services for those with autism and disabilities, is hiring 300 across the state, and no previous work experience is required.

If you are an employer in a critical industry, you should submit information about job openings here: https://jobs.covid19.nj.gov/intake.

“Helping workers who have seen their jobs disappear or had their hours reduced because of COVID-19 is one of our most pressing responsibilities,” said Department of Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo. “The jobs portal is a central component of our efforts to help these New Jersey residents get back to work.”

The portal already has more than 12,000 job openings and more are being added every day.

“My administration’s top priority is helping New Jersey residents and businesses overcome the unprecedented disruptions COVID-19 is causing while staying healthy and safe,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “The jobs portal will give residents who have lost their jobs or seen their hours reduced an opportunity to get back to work while also providing crucial support to the industries that are on the frontlines of fighting this pandemic.”
