'Games of Thrones' Language Inventor to Speak at Brookdale Community College

Meet the man who invented the Dothraki and Valyrian languages for "Game of Thrones" at a free lecture at Brookdale Community College.

LINCROFT, NJ - Do you speak Dothraki? Meet the man who does.

David J. Peterson, master language creator for the HBO series “Game of Thrones” and Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” will host a free presentation on the art of invented languages at 7 p.m. on April 6 at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Peterson created the Dothraki and Valyrian languages for "Game of Thrones."

He will speak about his experience writing for “Games of Thrones” and “Thor: The Dark World” in this free lecture.

Peterson, who has also created languages for Syfy’s “Defiance” and authored the book “The Art of Language Invention,” will provide an overview of the history of language invention, from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien to Star Trek and beyond.

He will also describe his own work for contemporary shows and movies, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the growing art of language invention.
