Indivisible Town Hall Meeting Wednesday at Brookdale

LINCROFT, NJ - A liberal group called Indivisible NJ 4th District will hold what they're billing as "A Citizens’ Town Hall" tomorrow night Wednesday April 19, at Brookdale Community College. Tomorrow night's meeting/protest is meant to bring attention to the fact that Monmouth County's Congressman, Rep. Chris Smith (R) has not held a public town hall since April 1993.

It's not likely Rep. Smith will attend tomorrow night, either. His spokesman said of the last Indivisible event, held Feb. 22 at the Manalapan library, that "he would not attend a partisan event disguised as a town hall." His spokesman Jeff Sagnip also said in the past Smith had been called names such as “raving lunatic,” “hateful bigot” and “smug piece of conservative garbage" at similar public events.

“As an elected representative he has a responsibility to have a dialogue with his constituents — even the ones that might disagree with him — and we don’t think that he is living up to that responsibility," said organizer and Neptune resident Jack Losinger.

Indivisible NJ 4th District is part of the greater Indivisible movement, which was formed to fight the presidency of Donald Trump. Issues residents say they would like to speak with Rep. Smith about tomorrow night include foreign interference in U.S. elections, freedom of the press, civil rights and voter suppression.

The town hall will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Warner Student Life Center at Brookdale Community College. All are invited to attend.
