Kayakers Rescued Off Ideal Beach Sunday

Two kayakers had to be rescued Sunday evening after their kayak overturned near Ideal Beach.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Two kayakers had to be rescued Sunday after their kayak overturned near Ideal Beach in Middletown.

The Middletown Township Fire Department got the 911 call about the overturned kayak at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, June 17. When the Brevent Park and Leonardo Fire Company boats got there, they found two people in the water holding onto the kayak.

They were rescued and taken to the Port Monmouth Cove marina. They did not need EMS or medical assistance.

Approximately seven members responded to the call from the Brevent Park & Leonardo Fire Company. The Coast Guard, East Keansburg Fire Company and Leonardo First Aid responded to provide assistance to Middletown during operations. Thanks to the Monmouth County Radio Room for their efficient support in the rescue operations, Middletown Township Fire Department Public Information Officer Dennis Fowler said.

All units operated safely under the supervision of Fire Department Second Assistant Chief John Friedman.
