Middletown officials have learned that Monmouth County will get more than $2 million in federal funds to replace the Bray Avenue Bridge.

Middletown officials have learned that Monmouth County will get more than $2 million in federal funding to replace the Bray Avenue Bridge, which has been shut down because it was damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

“This sorely needed funding will pave the way toward replacement of the Bray Avenue Bridge,” Middletown Mayor Stephanie Murray said in a news release. “The closure of this bridge has been an inconvenience for emergency responders and area motorists. We’re all looking forward to the day when Monmouth County can safely open it again.”

The funding represents about 90 percent of the estimated $2.2 million cost of the project, according to Congressman Chris Smith’s office.
