Middletown Mayor Stephanie Murray resigned Friday afternoon, citing increased demands with her day job as West Long Branch administrator.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Middletown Mayor Stephanie Murray resigned Friday afternoon. The Township received her resignation effective June 22 of this year, Middletown announced Monday in a statement on their website.
The Middletown Township Committee will choose Deputy Mayor Kevin Settembrino to serve as mayor for the remainder of 2018.
Murray resigned her position not just as mayor, but also as an elected Township Committeewoman.

In her brief resignation letter, which Middletown Twp. made public here, Murray said she had to step down because of increased job demands. She is the full-time borough administrator of West Long Branch. She was formerly the part-time administrator, but was recently hired by West Long Branch full time.
Middletown Township Committee members are paid a stipend of about $4,000 per year. Murray was elected to the five-person Middletown Twp. Committee seven years ago. From there, the Committee selects a mayor for a one-year term.
