MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Beginning Monday, Sept. 13, Navesink River Road will be closed to all traffic to replace the bridge over McClees Creek.

This is a bridge replacement that originally started back in April, but due to issues workers discovered underground once they started, the work was postponed until after the summer.

Now, the bridge replacement will not be completed until the spring of 2022.

The road will be closed to all traffic, not just through traffic, until the spring, said a spokesman for Monmouth County. There will be detour signs up.

McClees Creek bridge has to be replaced due to age and normal deterioration from car traffic during its years in service, he said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this road closure causes as the bridge is being replaced,” said Monmouth Commissioner Director Thomas Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We appreciate the patience of those who travel on Navesink River Road during this construction project and will work to get it done as quickly as possible.”

The road will be closed to car traffic. Drivers should plan to use an alternate route during construction. Detour signs have been posted throughout the area to assist drivers. The construction is being performed by J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. of Hackensack.
