Rabid Raccoon Found In North Middletown Oct. 8
A resident first called in a sick raccoon on Oct. 8 in the area of Morningside Avenue between Krueger Place and Dalby Place.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A raccoon that turned out to have rabies was found in the North Middletown section last Thursday, the Middletown Township Health Department reported.
A resident first called in the sick raccoon on Oct. 8 in the area of Morningside Avenue between Krueger Place and Dalby Place.
There was a possible human exposure to the sick raccoon, so Middletown Animal Control humanely euthanized the animal at a vet’s office, and sent its carcass to the state lab for rabies testing.

The Middletown Health Dept. announced that the positive rabies results came back Friday morning.
Residents should not to interact with wildlife under any circumstance. If you come across a sick or injured animal, keep your distance and avoid all contact. Call Middletown Animal Control at 732-615-2097 immediately or contact the Middletown Police Department at 732-615-2100 after hours and on weekends.

Says Middletown local government: Please make sure all domestic animals (dogs, cats and livestock) are currently vaccinated with a Rabies shot. Do not let your pets run free off leash, even in the woods, to ensure they do not come in contact with wildlife that may be rabid.
