Three Charged In February Keansburg Shooting

One of the men arrested had been recently released from New Jersey state prison due COVID-19; he was serving time for drug offenses.

KEANSBURG, NJ — Three people were arrested last Wednesday and charged in connection to a Feb. 20 shooting in Keansburg, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Feb. 20, the Keansburg Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the first block of Seabreeze Avenue.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's office and Keansburg launched a joint investigation, which revealed that the victim had been shot at multiple times from a car occupied by three people, two men and a woman. The shooting victim was never hit.

Police were able to identify the car, and the three men were identified as Wayne Jones, Jr., 23, of Keansburg, Brittany Smalls, 25, of Neptune and Tyrone Bailey, 21, of Asbury Park.

On May 6 police stopped Jones in a car along with two others and they were found to be in possession of a stolen, loaded, 9mm handgun, said police.

All three were charged with first-degree attempted murder, and various weapons charges.

The two people in the car, Tiera Young, 24, of Lakewood, and Darrell Ghee, 25, of Asbury Park, were also charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and stolen property.

Ghee had been recently paroled from a thirty-day home confinement furlough after he was released from New Jersey state prison under Gov. Phil Murphy’s Executive Order #124. Ghee had been sentenced to a four-year prison term for eluding and drug offenses, with a maximum release date set for July 25 of this year.
