Vito Chiaravalloti ’99 Named New Athletic Director at CBA

Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Vito Chiaravalloti of Hazlet, a 1999 graduate, as athletic director, replacing John Przygocki, who is retiring after 41 years of service. Chiaravalloti brings his experience as an educational administrator, alumnus, athlete, and coach to his new role.

Chiaravalloti earned his bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Richmond (2003) and master's degree in educational leadership and administration with a focus on administration and leadership within a Catholic institution at Seton Hall University (2012). He currently serves as CBA’s director of academy relations, handling admissions and marketing for the school, and teaches Advanced Placement Psychology. He also previously served as assistant athletic director from 2010-2012.

Prior to returning to CBA, Chiaravalloti was a professional baseball player for six seasons. Drafted in the 15th round by the Toronto Blue Jays, he played four seasons with the Jays, one with the Orioles, and three in the Atlantic League for the Somerset Patriots and Camden Riversharks. During his collegiate baseball career, he was team captain (2002, 2003); two-time All-American (2002, 2003); four-time All-Conference; three-time All-Region; and a member of the All-Academic Team (2003). Chiaravalloti helped the University of Richmond Spiders earn their highest ever national ranking (No. 6 in 2002) and still holds Richmond’s single season record for RBIs (86) and career records for runs scored (220), home runs (61), RBIs (245), and total bases (531).

As a CBA Colt, he was a varsity letter winner in baseball; team captain (1999); All-State (1997, 1999), All-Shore (1997-1999), Carpenter Cup Selection (1997-1999); Baseball Factory All-American (1999); and still holds CBA career records for doubles (31) and slugging (.862). Also lettering in swimming (four years), Chiaravalloti was team captain (1999); two-time All-American (1998, 1999); YMCA National Champion (1999: 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay); NJ State Champion (1999: 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle); NJ State Swimmer of the Year (1999), and won 14 Shore Conference individual/relay titles. He helped the Colts earn their first-ever state title (1998) and still holds the school record in the 50 freestyle (21.28).

Chiaravalloti returned to CBA athletics to coach varsity swimming and freshman baseball in 2008, leading the Colts to five-straight NJSIAA state championships in swimming as well as two sub-varsity baseball championships. He also earned distinctions of three-time Shore Conference Coach of the Year and 2011 NJ Coach of the Year.

“As a CBA athlete and coach, I've seen, first-hand, the tradition of excellence synonymous with our athletic program,” said Chiaravalloti. “To be an athlete at CBA means making a commitment to excellence, both on and off the field.  Our student-athletes respect CBA’s storied athletic history and look to build upon the traditions set forth by those who came before them. I am confident that my experiences will help me build on the success of CBA athletics as we move into the future.”

As athletic director Chiaravalloti looks to further develop a student-centered athletic program that builds community and spirit. One focus will be engaging fans through dynamic multimedia content, social media, and events.
Said Chiaravalloti, “There are many challenges and opportunities that face a 21st century high school athletic program and I look forward to leading CBA athletics during this exciting time.”
