Bond Ordinance, New Manager On Tap For Moorestown Council Meeting

Moorestown Council will meet on Monday, Aug. 20, 7:30 p.m.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A bond ordinance that was to be introduced earlier this month is back on the docket for Monday night’s Moorestown Council meeting. Council will meet on Monday night, Aug. 20, 7:30 p.m. at town hall, 111 West Second Street.

Once again, the workshop session usually scheduled for 7 p.m. is canceled in favor of a closed session in which council will discuss affordable housing, open space and the attorney-client privilege.

Moorestown Council will consider a bond ordinance on introduction that calls for council to appropriate $1,050,000, including borrowing $997,500 in bonds or notes to be used for the extension of the township's fiber optic network to all the township's water and waste water treatment facilities.

Council will also consider a pair of proposed ordinances on second reading. The first would vacate a portion of Glen Avenue. The other calls on the township to accept a grant of easement for a 20' wide sanitary sewer easement in favor of the township at 1490 Glen Avenue.

All three of these items were to be considered at the Aug. 6 meeting, but that meeting was canceled for lack of a quorum.

There are also 19 items on the consent agenda, including the appointment of Thomas Neff as township manager. He would assume the position from Thomas Merchel effective Sept. 4, and make $140,000 a year. Merchel resigned as township manager in February, but will remain as the township’s CFO.
