Innovative Spay-Neuter Campaign Launches August 15 in City of Camden

Revolutionary Approach Encourages Residents to Have their Pets Fixed

In an effort to help combat pet overpopulation in the City of Camden, NJ Aid for Animals is launching HALT (Helping Animals Lives Today), an innovative spay-neuter campaign, in August 2016.

Through a combination of grants, NJ Aid for Animals is offering City of Camden residents a spay-neuter package that includes rabies and parvo vaccine, microchip ID and a flea treatment for only $8. In addition, NJ Aid for Animals will provide each resident with a money order payable to City of Camden to pay for licensing their dog. Residents are encouraged to act upon this opportunity quickly as the grant supports services for a limited number of pets.

“Camden City recently amended its municipal code to end mandatory spay-neuter for licensed dogs, potentially increasing unwanted litters,” said Kathy McGuire, President. “HALT provides residents with a convenient and affordable way to spay-neuter pets and obtain a license – it’s a win-win for everyone.”

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the average number of litters a fertile dog produces is one a year; the average number of puppies is four to six. The average number of litters a fertile cat produces is one to two a year; the average number of kittens is four to six per litter. The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for a year.

NJ Aid for Animals is investing 100% of grant funds raised for this project to decrease the number of unwanted litters and to get every single animal micro chipped to ensure a safe return to their families if lost," McGuire added.
