We met Lauren about 6 years ago after becoming friends with her husband Peter. Lauren is a lifelong
Moorestown resident whose family roots in our community go back six generations. She and Pete,
another lifelong Moorestownian, care deeply about this community and its citizens. Their son and
daughter are students in the Moorestown school system right now.

One of the main reasons we support Lauren’s candidacy is that she is a teacher herself, having taught
students at various locations and grade levels for 18 years. She is a special education teacher at the Yale
School.

As such, she is intimately familiar with the challenges Moorestown faces in providing the best
possible education in the least restrictive environment for children with special needs. We think Lauren
would bring an invaluable first-hand perspective on the day-to-day challenges our teachers and support
staff face in providing our kids with the best education and preparation for life beyond graduation.

Lauren also understands how crucial it is to spend our tax dollars effectively in this era of rising taxes
and shrinking budgets. We believe she would be an excellent steward of our school system’s budget,
with a real world perspective on which programs are ineffective and which work but need greater
funding.

Jack’s emphasis on transparency and openness also resonates with us as citizens and parents. We firmly
believe that students and their parents should be able to easily access information about resources and
programs available in our schools, increasing each family’s ability to make the best informed choices
about their child’s educational path.

We moved to Moorestown 21 years ago in large part because of the reputation of its schools. We love
this town, and we continue to believe that Moorestown has a quality school system. Of course, we can
always do better, and we believe Lauren and Jack can help us get there.

Please do your own research, educate yourself on the role of the Board of Education, and we feel
confident you will join us in casting your vote for Lauren Romano and Jack Fairchild on November 7.

Very truly yours,
John and Tracy Shields
