To the Editor:
On October 25, the Moorestown Sun published a vicious, full-page ad attacking Moorestown Board of Education (BOE) candidates Lauren Romano and Jack Fairchild. This ad stated that it was paid for by CFGML (Citizens for a Great Mt. Laurel), 1 Godfrey Ct, Mt Laurel. This political action committee’s (PAC) stated goal is “to advocate for the well-being and future of Mt. Laurel Township by educating the population on issues of local importance, and ensuring that facts prevail over false political communication by those whose self-interest (sic) supersedes the interests of the people of Mt. Laurel.”

Why then is this PAC injecting false statements into a non-partisan school board race in Moorestown?
I am sure they know that Moorestown BOE members have absolutely no influence over affordable housing decisions in New Jersey.

And the accusation that the candidates will do the bidding of the teachers’ union’s president is ridiculous. The candidates are parents with children who attend Moorestown schools, and as such, there is no doubt in my mind that they will put the children first.
According to the public records, Richard Alaimo of Alaimo Associates donated $7200 to the PAC this year. Over the past four years, since 2013 the Alaimo Group and its engineers have donated $44,000 to this PAC.
The Alaimo Group is Moorestown Township’s “no-bid” engineering firm. I assume they are aware that this PAC is spending their money in an attempt to undermine the supposedly non political BOE election in a town with which they have contracts.
Is this acceptable to the residents of Moorestown? It is apparent that CFGML is not living up to its stated purpose. They and their contributors should be ashamed of this ad. In fact every listed member of this PAC are not residents of Moorestown.
Candidates Lauren Romano and Jack Fairchild are reasonable people who want to bring their
interest and talents to serve as Moorestown BOE members. Please Moorestown voters, do not let this bit of dirty, partisan politics sway your vote.
