Moorestown Council Considers Sewer Main Replacement
It was one of four proposed ordinances considered on first reading at the Aug. 28 meeting.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Council passed a pair of proposed bond ordinances and a change order for another bond ordinance, all on first reading, when it met at town hall on Aug. 28.
One proposed bond ordinance calls for the appropriation of $3,675,000 and the borrowing of $3,495,000 in bonds or notes for the replacement of various water mains throughout the township.
The proposal calls for the replacement of about 4,700 linear feet of 4 and 6 inch portions of pipe with 12 inch portions on North Church Street from Central Avenue to New Albany Road, and the replacement of about 2,200 feet of 6 inch pipe with 8 inch pipe on Centre Street from Lenola Road to Red Leaf Road.

As part of the work, the crosswalks in the area will be ripped up and redone, according to Township Manager Tom Merchel. This work may help with some of the speed issues on North Church Street.
The other proposed ordinance calls for the appropriation of $910,000 and the borrowing of f $865,500 in bonds or notes for the replacement of roofs for the Department of Public Works building and various sewer treatment plants.

There was a bond ordinance in 2013 that set aside $16,000 to patch up the roof on the Public Works Office Building, but it never got done, said Merchel, who added that that ordinance will be canceled and this one will replace it.
This proposal calls for the complete replacement of that roof, as well as the replacement of the roofs on 12-13 sewer treatment plants, Merchel said.
The proposed change order concerns another 2013 bond ordinance, this one for various improvements to water and sewer utility infrastructure. The township ran out of money for this project before it was finished, and needs an additional $440,000 to complete the work, Merchel said.
The final proposed ordinance that was introduced at the Aug. 28 meeting calls for amendments to the stormwater management ordinance of the township. To see the proposed changes, click here.
All proposals were passed with 4-0 votes. Councilwoman Lisa Petriello was absent. Public hearings and final votes for all four proposals are scheduled for the Sept. 11 meeting at town hall.
