Moorestown Patch Letter to the Editor: Resident Questions Conduct of Council Members During Meetings

Moorestown resident Eric Blair questions conduct of council members during recent meeting.

To the Editor:

I'm writing you this letter to voice my opinion on the most recent council meeting.

The way the town solicitor, township manager, and council members behaved is beyond belief. You are elected officials and hired professionals put in place to do what is best for the community. That would include fielding questions that you might deem repetitive and while doing so, do it impartially.

The solicitor should run for mayor because apparently he controls the meetings. Sadly we don't elect our mayor, but that is a conversation for a later date.

The fact that we have council members specifically mentioning residents by name (who left the meeting and couldn't defend themselves) in their closing comments, referring to them as "shameful" and "a waste of time" is absurd. Is that up to council and paid employees to decide?

There was also a reference to the meetings being taped by residents and broadcast to social media. Why is this a concern? I have a suggestion for our current council, since the room in town hall was paid for by tax payers and is set up for recording and apparently does so when there aren't "technical difficulties;" why doesn't the township do it all the time for it's residents?

Don't all of our surrounding towns film meetings and have them available on a television channel or at the very least online? Does our current council, solicitor, and manager not want to be filmed? Does talking about our current water situation bother council members?

It should. It should have them worried about everyone's health. They need to start with being transparent and seeking help from any and all sources willing to give it.

That's the Moorestown I remember, the Moorestown I grew up in. We fixed things, no matter the situation. Everyone brainstormed and found a solution. The community was involved and had input and ultimately we accomplished more together. Let's try and get back to that.
