North Church Street Water Treatment Plant Project Highlights Agenda for Moorestown Council Meeting
Council meets at town hall Monday night, 7 p.m.

Moorestown, NJ -- Moorestown will soon be a step closer to installing its temporary treatment at the North Church Street Water Treatment Plant.
The township will introduce a proposed ordinance to appropriate $380,000 and borrow $361,000 to purchase equipment for the project when it meets Monday night, 7 p.m., at town hall. This includes a $19,000 down payment.
The treatment would temporarily eliminate the presence of Trichloropropane (TCP 1,2,3) and Trichlorethylene (TCE) that has been found in the township’s drinking water while the township explores a permanent solution.

Electrical piping would intercept the water either before it was treated or after and remove any traces of TCP 1,2,3 or TCE.
The township will also consider a resolution as part of its consent agenda to rescind a $198,850 contract with Level 1 Construction for the construction of two granular carbon absorption tanks at the plant.

That contract will be rescinded because it doesn’t include treatment for gross alpha, which the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) says must now be included as part of an Administrative Consent Order (ACO) the township entered into on July 1.
The same ACO calls for the township to impose restrictions on water use at all times throughout the year.
Moorestown currently only imposes restrictions in emergency situations, which is a violation of a now-terminated Memorandum of Agreement between the township and NJDEP.
A discussion of that issue is scheduled for the workshop portion of the meeting.
