Paintings by major artists will be on the block.

An event described as a 'divorce auction' is scheduled for Saturday at the in Morris Township. The auction has been organized by National Estate Marketing, a firm that says it specializes in liquidating fine antiques, artwork and other luxury items.

While the owners of the  hand-knotted silk and wool carpets and original Picasso and Warhol works to be auctioned Saturday are not identified, Christian Evans, a spokesman for the company, described the couple as "high profile." Artworks by Chagall, Miro, Dali and other well-known masters also will be sold to the highest bidder.

According to a statement provided by Evans, "With the divorce rate hovering somewhere in the vicinity of 50%, it is easy to understand how individuals require an expeditious manner in which to liquidate personal property that has been acquired over the course of their marriage.  For some, the solution may be one of the oldest forms of commerce, the auction."
