Psych Evaluation Ordered For Man Found in Morristown Plaza With Guns, Illegal Ammo

Andrew Pfitzenmayer, 26, next due in court August 25.

A bail condition was added for a man arrested in July at Morristown’s Headquarters Plaza who was allegedly found to be in possession of Glock 9MM handguns, a bullet-proof vest, fake badge, hollow-point bullets, and a backpack filled with handcuffs, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

The prosecutor’s office and the attorney for Andrew Pfitzenmayer, 26, of Peapack-Gladstone, came to an agreement which keeps all previous bail conditions in place and adds the psychological evaluation, which the accused will be ordered to pay for on his own, Knapp said.

Pfitzenmayer was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, when a bystander called police to say the man was “acting suspiciously.” Police found Pfitzenmayer allegedly in possession of the aforementioned weapons and ammunition, and charged him with possession of a handgun and possession of hollow point bullets.

Pfitzenmayer’s bail was set at $100,000, which he posted the following Monday.

Initially, during his first court hearing Judge Stephen Taylor did not order a psychological evaluation, despite the recommendation of the prosecutor’s office.

That drew the ire and concern of Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, who later held a press conference calling on legislators to change rules around evaluations for anyone arrested in a public place while carrying weapons.

Judge Taylor signed the consent order modifying the bail conditions to add the psychological evaluation Tuesday.

Pfitzenmayer is next due in court Aug. 25.
