Elderly Ocean City Woman Dies From Coronavirus

The 82-year-old woman is the second person in Ocean City to die from COVID-19.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — An 82-year-old woman in Ocean City died from the coronavirus, Cape May County officials announced Monday. She did not live in a longterm-care facility, so officials say she suffered Ocean City's first "community" death from the virus.

Two people in Ocean City have now died from COVID-19, according to the county health department. Officials announced Ocean City's first coronavirus death May 22: an 85-year-old woman.

"My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their loved one," said Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. "May your memories give you peace and comfort."

The Cape May County Health Department has reported 659 total coronavirus cases and 53 deaths, including another two fatalities reported Monday: a 55-year-old West Cape May woman and an 87-year-old Dennis Township woman.

The CMCHD said 435 people have been cleared off quarantine as of Monday. Ocean City has nine active cases as of Monday, along with 32 people cleared off quarantine.
