Ocean City School Board Names New Vice President

Jacqueline McAlister was named the new vice president after Thomas Oves Jr., who served for 3 years, stepped aside, ocnjdaily.com reports.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City School District Board of Education appointed a new vice president during its reorganization meeting Wednesday night, ocnjdaily.com reports.

Jacqueline A. McAlister is the new vice president, according to the report. Thomas R. Oves Jr. was the vice president for the last three years, but told the news site that he relinquished his position to give McAlister the opportunity to have a leadership position.

Joseph S. Clark Jr. was reappointed as board president, according to the report. It will be his fourth year as board president. Both president and vice president received unanimous support from the board.

The board, made up of nine Ocean City members and three Upper Township representatives, appoint a president and vice president to serve one-year terms at its annual reorganization meeting.

Also at the meeting, Greg Whelan and Dale Braun Jr. were sworn in following their elections to the board in November. Tiffany Prettyman was also elected, but missed the meeting because she was sick, according to the report.

Whelan was first nominated to the board in 2014 when Pete Madden left the board after being elected to city council. After winning a special election, he finished Madden’s unexpired term, and was elected to his own three-year term in November.

Prettyman followed a similar course. She was appointed to the board last year when Ray Clark resigned. After winning a special election, she finished Clark’s unexpired term and was elected to her own three-year term in November.

Braun is a newcomer to the board.
