Students from the Norman A. Bleshman Regional Day School’s Career Awareness Center, located in Paramus, hosted their 5th Annual Roll-A-Thon and Tailgate Party on Oct. 7 to benefit Pony Power and the Dumont Elks Lodge 2593.
Both organizations are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with special needs. Pony Power provides therapeutic riding lessons for Bleshman students, as well as students in other Bergen County Special Services School District programs. The Elks Club provides summer camping experiences for students at Camp Moore.

Sean Lissemore, defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys and Dumont High School graduate, visited the school to participate in the event. He visited each classroom, speaking with students and staff and posing for pictures.
Students led more than 200 participants in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America. Then everyone—students, staff, family members, and peers from surrounding schools, as well as our community students who wore their lime green shoelaces to raise awareness of pediatric cancer—walked, rolled and biked to raise awareness and funds for the Elks and Pony Power.

The parade was led by Dr. Howard Lerner, Superintendent of the Bergen County Special Services School District. Special guests who took part in the event included Kathleen A. Donovan, Bergen County Executive; John Driscoll, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Chosen Freeholders; Assemblywoman Connie Wagner; Julie O’Brien, Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Connie Wagner; Don deVera, Exalted Ruler Dumont Elks Lodge 2593; and, Jay Lynch, Past District Deputy of Dumont Elks Lodge 2593.
