Teacher Makes Paramus Strong Bracelets To Help Local Families

The bracelets were created in memory of teacher Jennifer Williamson-Kennedy and 10-year-old student Miranda Faith Vargas.

PARAMUS, NJ — A teacher has created and is selling a bracelet in memory of the two people who died in a school bus crash May 17.

East Brook Middle School teacher Jennifer Williamson-Kennedy and 10-year-old student Miranda Faith Vargas were killed in the crash. The bus they were in collided with a dump truck on I-80 after its driver tried to make an illegal U-turn, authorities said.

An East Brook teacher who was on the bus designed the bracelets. They have "Paramus Strong" in white and black block letters and blue and white beads, East Brook's school colors. They cost $18 each.

"As a community, we are Paramus strong, and this bracelet will forever remind us," the webpage that the bracelets are sold on says.

Forty percent of the profits from bracelet sales will be donated to the Paramus Children's Health Foundation, which provides financial assistance to local families with children who have a severe illness or injury.

The hashtag #ParamusStrong was trending on social media after the crash occurred. Since then, tens of thousands of dollars has been donated to help victims' families and the East Brook community. East Brook alumnus Christopher Sabo also wrote and produced a song in memory of the victims and in support of the community.

Hudy Muldrow Sr., 77, was driving the bus when authorities said it made an illegal U-turn on I-80 during a field trip. He was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. A judge ordered Wednesday he be released from jail and turn over his driver's license as a condition of that release.
