NJ Weather: 49K Without Power, Roads Closed As More Storms Coming

Roads are closed and more than 150 NJ towns are still reporting outages. Find out which towns have the most outages.

Nearly 50,000 people were still without power, and a number of roads were closed Wednesday after a wild pack of lightning and thunderstorms roared through New Jersey (see list of towns with power outages below).

Tuesday night's storm knocked down trees and power lines across New Jersey, leaving a trail of road closures and power outages as residents get ready for work Wednesday morning.

And more bad weather is expected. A wet and stormy pattern will continue in New Jersey and much of the eastern U.S., with flash flooding and strong thunderstorms possible, according to the National Weather Service (see forecast below).

Morris County was especially hard-hit, just as it was when nor'easters hit the region in March. Multiple highways in the county are totally closed because of fallen trees or wires as of 7:17 a.m., the NJ DOT said. Read more here...

A lightning strike sent a tree falling onto two cars driving in opposite directions on Tabor Road during Tuesday's storm, Parsippany Patrolman Brian Conover told Patch. Read more here...

  • NJ 29: Downed tree on NJ 29 northbound South of Kingwood Station-Barbertown Rd in Kingwood Twp. All lanes closed and detoured.
  • US 206: Downed tree and downed wires on US 206 southbound area of North of CR 618/Fredon Springdale Rd in Andover Twp. All lanes closed 2 way traffic on northbound roadway.
  • I-295: Accident on I-295 northbound at Exit 63 - NJ 33 in Hamilton Twp. Right shoulder closed; use caution.
  • Garden State Parkway: Accident on the Garden State Parkway southbound north of Exit 148 - John F Kennedy Dr North in Bloomfield. Center lane blocked.
  • NJ 38: Sinkhole on NJ 38 eastbound east of CR 613/Mansion Blvd in Pennsauken Twp. Right lane closed; use caution.
  • US 46: Downed wires on US 46 westbound area of CR 634/main St in Mine Hill Twp. Right lane closed for repairs.
  • S Jefferson Road: Downed pole and Downed wires on S Jefferson Road at NJ 10 East in Hanover Twp. All lanes closed and detoured until further notice.

  • Thursday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 68. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Thursday night: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 8pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 57. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog before 8am. High near 62. Northeast wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
