See the list of towns without power. Who had the most outages? Downed trees were everywhere. There was even an explosion (see video).

ORIGINAL STORY: More than 105,000 without power as the storm rolled through New Jersey on Tuesday, leaving downed trees and wires everywhere and closing a number of roads (see list of towns without power below).

Believe or not, the storms were powerful enough to compel some school districts to change their schedules. Read more: New Jersey School Closings/Delays List For 5/16/18

The storms could still bring flash flooding, strong winds and large hail, the National Weather Service said. More than 60-mph wind gusts could come to Ocean County and other parts of the Jersey Shore and South Jersey. There was even an explosion (see video below).

A flash flood watch also was in place from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday morning (see forecast below).

Severe weather conditions have begun to disrupt flight activity. Newark arrivals are delayed at their departure origin, on average, for more than two hours. Also, there are now 141 cancellations.

NJ Gov. Phil Murphy's office released a statement saying he has been briefed by senior officials on the thunderstorms and their impact on New Jersey, and he's closely monitoring the situation in consultation with his cabinet and senior staff.

"The governor is particularly concerned about effects of strong winds, flash flooding, localized hail, and isolated tornadoes - and is prepared to mobilize the resources of state government to assist residents, emergency personnel, and local officials to keep the public safe," the statement said.

The severe thunderstorm watch was in effect until 11 p.m. Here are the alerted areas, 4 p.m.:

....and at 5:45 p.m.:

These ares had a severe thunderstorm warning:

  • Passaic County in northeastern New Jersey...
  • Northwestern Union County in northeastern New Jersey...
  • Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey...
  • Essex County in northeastern New Jersey...
  • Morris County in northern New Jersey...
  • Northwestern Hunterdon County in northwestern New Jersey...
  • Sussex County in northwestern New Jersey...
  • Warren County in northwestern New Jersey...

  • Somerset County in northern New Jersey...
  • Northern Middlesex County in northern New Jersey...
  • Ocean County in southern New Jersey...
  • Northern Burlington County in southern New Jersey...
  • Monmouth County in central New Jersey...

Forecasters say a line of intense thunderstorms was expected to move into the region from the northwest late this afternoon and into the evening.

"There are indications that storms may repeatedly move over the same areas, especially during the evening hours. Localized rainfall of one to three inches is likely where this occurs," the NWS said.

The areas of greatest risk were poor-drainage and urban locations, where rapid runoff may cause localized flash flooding. Quickly responding creeks and streams may also experience flooding in areas receiving the heaviest rainfall.

Here is a timeline of when the storms were supposed to be at their worst (severe weather is in red; the frames are for 5, 8 and 11 p.m.):

Unfortunately, this won't be the last of the rain. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast everyday through early next week.

Numerous outdoor plans will be in jeopardy this week across the eastern United States as showers and locally severe thunderstorms frequent the region, according to AccuWeather.

"After a relatively warm and dry start to the month of May, the pattern has become much more humid and wet heading into the middle of the month across the Northeast," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said in an AccuWeather release.

The weather pattern shaping up will allow showers and thunderstorms to track across the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic on a nearly daily basis this week.

"Tropical moisture flowing northward into the area combined with a stalled front will yield the unsettled weather in places such as Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia through much of the week," Pydynowski said.

Many sporting events and other outdoor plans can face delays or postponements this week. This includes the Major League Baseball games set to be played in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Pittsburgh and New York City.
