Bergen Man Pleads Not Guilty To Hit-And-Run That Critically Injured College Student: Report

Michael Choynowski, 21, was arraigned and released on $30,000 bail, the report says.

Michael Choynowski pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and endangering an injured victim in connection with a hit-and-run that critically injured a Montclair State Student last week, The Record reported.

Choynowski’s case has been transferred to Superior Court in Paterson, the report states. A hearing in the case will be scheduled for the next two weeks.

Choynowski allegedly struck Anna Semioli, a 22-year-old student at Montclair State University, with his Dodge Ram pickup Oct. 9 while she was crossing Route 46 East near the Valley Road intersection, police said.

Semioli was found in the roadway by a tract of woods along Route 46, just before the exit for Valley Road, NJ News 12 stated.

Semioli remains in a coma in critical condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, The Record reported.

Authorities said Choynowski turned himself in on Thursday after an investigation and Semioli’s family offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, reports state.

Clifton police said after Choynowski was arrested that they believe he was exiting a McDonald’s drive-through in Little Falls early last Friday morning when he struck Semioli; they do not believe he was driving under the influence, according to The Record’s report.
