Cousins Plead Not Guilty To Ridgewood Church Shooting Charges, Report Says

Alexander Norrell of Ridgewood, and his cousin, Joseph Galli allegedly fired 40 bullets into the Old Paramus Reformed Church last year.

A Ridgewood man and his cousin plead not guilty to weapons charges and causing more than $2,000 in damages to the Old Paramus Reformed Church late last year after they alleged shot bullets into the empty building last year, The Record reported.

Alexander Norrell, 23, of Ridgewood, and his cousin, Joseph Galli, 22, of Somerville, allegedly fired rounds from a “high-powered rifle” into the historic church, breaking a stained-glass window from 1875.

A grand jury indicted the men on eight criminal charges Sept. 2, including possession of an MK-47 assault rifle with the purpose to use it unlawfully against the property of another between Nov. 16 and Dec. 26, 2014, NBCPhiladelphia previously reported.

Authorities allege Norrell unlawfully possessed an assault rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, and another rifle. They were also indicted for causing more than $2,000 in property damage. The damage was reported to police Dec. 28, who said there were no known motives or threats received by the church or its pastor around that time.

Norrell, who was previously arrested on Jan. 6 after police searched his home and found drugs and high capacity magazines, was also charged with conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.

Norrell has been free on $105,000 bail since Jan. 12, according to the report.
