Ridgewood Council To Vote On Sweeping Business District Changes Tonight

Proposed changes to the Village's Central Business District would allow for high-density housing to be built there.

Years of discussion and debate will come down to tonight as the Village Council will decide on a series of sweeping reforms that could allow high-density housing to be built in the Central Business District.

The reforms come in the form of ordinances that would rezone parts of the district. The changes would give residents, especially older ones, the option of living in possible condominiums and other multi-unit locations.

The Council introduced the five ordinances 3-2 in July. The Planning Board approved the changes in June. Citizens for a Better Ridgewood, a grassroots non-profit, filed a lawsuit last month seeking a reversal of the Planning Board’s decision.

A public hearing on the ordinances will be held at the 7:30 p.m. meeting directly after roll call is taken. All members of the public who wish to speak will be given an opportunity to, officials said. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
